Fire at a weapons factory in Romania: authorities do not rule out sabotage and millions in losses
A fire broke out at a weapons factory in the city of Cugir, Romania, and authorities are considering the possibility of sabotage. The losses from the fire are estimated at over €400,000. Fortunately, no one was injured, but around 150,000 cartridges were lost, and another 250,000 may have been damaged.
Minister of Economy Radu Miruță does not rule out the version of sabotage, but the police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. The fire was localized after six hours, but explosions were heard during the extinguishing process. The investigation is ongoing, and a criminal case has already been initiated.
“I am curious to know specifically: what happened there, was it caused by external factors or was it self-ignition? I am waiting for the specialists' results,” emphasized Radu Miruță.
According to the Minister of Economy, this fire will not affect the supplies from the factory under the signed contracts. At the same time, the third arson of a cable was recorded near the town of Hohenmelzen in Germany.
