Border Guard’s Tragic Death in a Surprise Attack
According to МВС: On October 6, 2023, while on duty in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast, 26-year-old border guard Maxym Gusarov was killed when an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group ambushed him. Serving as a chief sergeant, Gusarov had joined the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine at the start of the full-scale war and played a role in reestablishing control along the frontier in that area. The Sumy region, which shares a border with Russia, has been a frequent target for such incursions.
Gusarov sustained injuries that proved fatal on the spot. He leaves behind his wife and young daughter. In recognition of his bravery and dedication, his name has been entered into the Book of Memory maintained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, an official record honoring fallen personnel.
