Ukraine's Cashless Payments in 2025

According to ХВИЛЯ: PrivatBank has revealed that its clients conducted cashless transactions exceeding 1.3 trillion hryvnias during 2025. This figure represents a 19% increase compared to the previous year's spending volume. Notably, nearly every other card payment in Ukraine is processed through PrivatBank's infrastructure, underscoring the institution's dominant role in the nation's shift away from cash.

Primary Spending Categories for Ukrainians

The largest category of expenditure was food products, accounting for 551.6 billion hryvnias, or 42.4% of all cashless payments. Other significant spending categories included:

  • Pharmacies and health goods - 8.4%
  • Clothing and footwear - 7.6%
  • Cosmetics and beauty salon services - 7.2%
  • Restaurants and food service establishments - 6.6%
  • Repairs, household appliances, and home goods - 5.8%
Serhiy Makarenko, a representative of PrivatBank, noted: 'These numbers highlight not only the convenience of cashless payments but also how, during the war, the bank's acquiring ecosystem has become a vital infrastructure of resilience for millions of Ukrainians.'

The growth in cashless transaction volume in Ukraine points to society's gradual adaptation to new economic conditions, including those imposed by ongoing military conflict. This trend is a key indicator of economic activity and consumer confidence. As one of the market's largest players, PrivatBank plays a crucial role in ensuring the accessibility of financial services, which in turn supports the stability of the domestic consumer market and is significant for the country's economic recovery amidst current challenges.
