Wheat in the Ports of Odessa Becomes More Expensive
Ціни на пшеницю в одеських портах зростають у гривнях, хоча вартість долара залишається незмінною.

Price Increase of Food Wheat in the Ports of Greater Odessa

According to ХВИЛЯ: In the ports of Greater Odessa, there has been an increase in the demand prices in hryvnias for food wheat, while dollar prices remain stable. In particular, trader prices for 2nd class wheat fluctuate between 208–216 USD/ton, while prices for 3rd class wheat range from 206–214 USD/ton. In hryvnia equivalent, prices for 2nd class wheat have risen to 10200–10600 UAH/ton, while prices for 3rd class wheat have increased to 10000–10400 UAH/ton.

Factors Influencing the Price Situation

The main factors influencing the price situation are:

  • the high exchange rate of the US dollar, which has set new historical records;
  • the cost of delivering grain to the ports of Odessa, which remains high due to infrastructure congestion and limitations in grain acceptance;
  • systematic attacks by the Russian Federation on port facilities, which lead to increased transshipment and insurance rates.

These factors create conditions for the rise of prices in hryvnias for wheat, despite the stability of dollar quotations.

The increase in prices for wheat in hryvnias amidst the stability of dollar quotations indicates a challenging economic situation in Ukraine, caused by both external and internal factors. The high exchange rate of the US dollar and infrastructural problems related to the war complicate the grain market situation even further, which may affect food security in the country.

Given these circumstances, it is important to monitor further changes in the food market and their potential impact on consumers and agricultural producers.
