Verkhovna Rada restored criminal liability for desertion: details
The Ukrainian parliament voted for a draft law that restores criminal liability for desertion during martial law. People's Deputy Oleksandr Fediienko reported that 277 deputies voted for draft law No. 13260, and this is only the first reading.
'That is, if it is adopted in its entirety, the court will not be able to apply the mitigating norm,' the deputy explained.
This draft law will cancel the exemption from liability for the first desertion or desertion, stated in the Criminal Code. In addition, it provides amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code regarding the rules for exempting servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from criminal liability in relevant cases.
People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak also reported on the simplification of the procedure for exempting military personnel from criminal liability who returned after desertion and continue to serve. This draft law received support from 227 deputies.
The Ukrainian parliament has restored criminal liability for desertion during the war. The draft law has passed the first reading and provides for the cancellation of exemption from liability for similar actions.
