Chemical Rescue Specialist Oksana Saienchuk: Defending Ukraine Without a Weapon

According to ДСНС: Oksana Saienchuk is a chemical rescue specialist from the Vinnytsia region, serving in Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES). Her career in this field began in 2016 when she worked as a radio telephone operator. Following the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Oksana underwent specialized training in the Sumy region in 2022, where she acquired skills in chemical reconnaissance. In the face of constant Russian attacks, her work is a critical line of defense for civilian safety. Today, she conducts post-attack reconnaissance, identifying the presence of hazardous chemical substances and measuring radiation levels.

Beyond her professional duties, Oksana is the mother of a 15-year-old daughter who is studying at a higher education institution. Her husband also serves in the SES as a driver. She emphasizes the vital importance of her training, stating:

'The training gave me confidence in every action, because in our work there is no room for error.' Oksana Saienchuk

Oksana expresses hope for a peaceful future, adding: 'My greatest wish is that we only respond to peaceful calls, and that the sky over Ukraine becomes quiet forever.'

The Critical Role of Rescue Workers

The Main Department of the SES in Ukraine's Vinnytsia region highlights the importance of specialists like Oksana, who risk their lives daily for the safety of others without ever using a weapon. These first responders operate on a different front line, mitigating the secondary dangers of warfare that threaten long after the initial attack.

The work of rescue personnel, especially under wartime conditions, is crucial for ensuring public safety. The chemical reconnaissance practiced by Oksana helps prevent potential disasters related to hazardous substances that may be released during shelling. The professional skills, readiness for risk, and self-sacrifice of these rescuers are a fundamental aspect of protecting the civilian population and restoring peaceful life in Ukraine.
