Growth of used car sales in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: In November 2023, there was a significant increase in the sales of used foreign cars in Ukraine, especially electric vehicles, due to the end of the customs duty exemption period. The total number of used car registrations in November amounted to 23.5 thousand, of which 9.2 thousand cars were under 5 years old. This indicates an activation of the used car market driven by changes in legislation.

Electric vehicles accounted for a significant share of the 'young' used car market, making up 60% of total sales. Gasoline cars represented 27%, hybrids - 8%, diesel - 4%, and cars with gas equipment - 1%. The best-selling electric car models in November were:

  • Tesla Model Y, with 931 units sold
  • Tesla Model 3, which sold 649 units
  • Kia Niro - 384 units

Prospects for the electric vehicle market

At the same time, starting January 1, 2026, taxes on car imports will be introduced in Ukraine, which, in turn, has provoked increased demand for electric vehicles. In November, the fleet of electric cars increased by a record 13.5 thousand units, which is 143% more than the previous year. This figure indicates a sharp rise in interest among Ukrainians in environmentally friendly transport.

Among other popular electric vehicle models, we can highlight:

  • Hyundai Kona
  • Nissan Rogue
  • Audi E-Tron Sportback
  • Volkswagen Tiguan
  • Mazda CX5
  • Chevrolet Bolt
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5

Thus, the used car market in Ukraine continues to develop, noting a growing interest in electric vehicles against the backdrop of changes in legislation and preferential conditions.

The growth in sales of used cars, especially electric vehicles, may indicate a shift in the consumer preferences of Ukrainians who are increasingly oriented towards environmentally friendly modes of transport. The introduction of new taxes on car imports from 2026 may also drive further demand growth for electric cars, as consumers seek to take advantage of the last opportunities to purchase cars without additional costs.
