Ballistic Missile Strikes Hit Kyiv and Dnipro: A Look at the Damage and Response
According to Главком: In the early hours of February 12, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack targeting the cities of Kyiv and Dnipro. In Kyiv, strikes hit infrastructure, including a private house in the Darnytskyi district and non-residential buildings in the Holosiivskyi and Desnianskyi districts. Meanwhile, in Dnipro, at least 10 explosions were reported, causing significant destruction.
Emergency services in Kyiv were dispatched to the Desnianskyi and Darnytskyi districts following the attack. Debris from a missile was also recorded falling near a residential building in the Dniprovskyi district of the capital. This latest assault compounds an already critical situation, coming just days after a massive Russian strike on Ukraine's energy grid on February 7. That earlier attack created a severe power supply crisis in Kyiv and six settlements in the Kherson region, leading to stricter scheduled blackouts across Ukraine from February 10-11.
Official Response to the Ongoing Threat
In response to the threat, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has instructed the State Energy Supervision body to investigate the power outages. Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, urged citizens to seek shelter immediately.
“The enemy is hitting the capital's infrastructure with ballistic missiles. Stay in shelters!” - Vitali Klitschko
The situation in the capital and Dnipro underscores the severe and persistent dangers civilians face as the conflict continues. These attacks are part of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, which has now entered its third year, inflicting heavy damage on civilian infrastructure and daily life. Given the repeated strikes on the energy system, the power supply situation remains extremely tense. Authorities continue to urge the public to adhere to safety measures, as the threat of further attacks remains high.
