Over 55,000 Left Without Power After Russian Strikes Hit Kherson Region Infrastructure
Critical Infrastructure in Kherson Region Targeted
According to Главком: Russian forces launched a mass attack on critical infrastructure in Ukraine's Kherson region, causing widespread disruptions to electricity and water supplies. As of the evening of February 17, more than 55,000 consumers in the city of Kherson and the surrounding area remained without power. The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanhko, provided this update on the situation via social media.
Many residential consumers and critical facilities in the Dniprovskyi district are still without electricity. By evening, water supply interruptions are possible in the area of the KHBK and in central Kherson. Repair crews are prioritizing the restoration of power to water utility facilities and hospitals to meet the basic needs of the population.
Rescue Workers Attacked and Public Advisory Issued
In a separate incident, Russian occupying forces attacked rescue workers who were dealing with the aftermath of an earlier strike. This attack damaged a fire truck, but the rescue personnel themselves were not injured. Yaroslav Shanhko urged residents to charge their devices and stock up on water, and to use designated 'Points of Invincibility' shelters if necessary, asking for understanding regarding the temporary inconveniences. These attacks on civilian infrastructure are a hallmark of Russia's invasion strategy, aiming to break civilian resilience during the winter months.
The situation in the Kherson region underscores the continuation of attacks on critical infrastructure, which has serious consequences for the civilian population.
Yaroslav Shanhko
In the context of war, armed conflict frequently leads to the disruption of basic living conditions, such as electricity and water supply, which are critically important for human survival. The efforts of Ukrainian services to restore infrastructure and support the population demonstrate their commitment to responding to the challenges of modern warfare.
