According to ХВИЛЯ: Russian military forces are now retrofitting their 'Molniya' attack drones with specialized mesh modems, integrating them into a unified command network. This mesh networking technology was first trialed on decoy drones known as 'Gerbera,' before being adapted for use on 'Kub' drones and long-range 'Shahed' models. The development highlights Russia's ongoing efforts to enhance the coordination and resilience of its drone fleets in the conflict.

According to available information, the modified Molniya drones are equipped with compact modems featuring two channels, each with a 5-watt power output. These modems operate within a frequency range of 1300 to 1500 MHz. Russian engineers have also paired the mesh modems with an analog video transmitter. Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to Ukraine's Minister of Defense, stated that this dual-system approach is intended to confuse the operators of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.

Shifts in Military Strategy

Furthermore, Russian engineers are undertaking a large-scale standardization of equipment, enabling the integration of ground-based robotic systems into the same unified control network. It is known that these mesh modems became a serial production solution by early autumn, indicating an intensification of technological upgrades within Russia's arsenal of unmanned systems.
