Airstrike Hits School in Komyshuvakha

According to ДСНС: In the village of Komyshuvakha, located in Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian airstrike struck a school where civilians had gathered to receive humanitarian aid. Following the initial attack, Russian forces also targeted rescuers and police officers who arrived to assist at the scene. Currently, the death toll stands at 40, with over 30 individuals feared trapped under the rubble. Some victims’ identities have yet to be confirmed.

Ongoing Search and Rescue Operations

Rescue teams have been working continuously for three days to locate survivors and recover bodies, deploying all necessary emergency services. These operations are being conducted under the constant threat of additional Russian strikes, significantly complicating the efforts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation as

"an extremely difficult operation, carried out under the persistent danger of new Russian attacks."

President Zelensky also emphasized the urgent need for enhanced air defense support, stating

"Ukraine’s air defense assistance is critically needed right now."

He expressed gratitude towards international partners taking steps to strengthen protection of Ukrainian airspace. Given the volatile conditions in the region, ongoing global support for Ukraine’s air defense remains a top priority.

This tragic event highlights the severe risks faced by civilians amid the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the dangers confronting emergency responders. The strike on a school serving as a humanitarian aid distribution point raises serious concerns about adherence to international humanitarian law during hostilities.
