Deepening Military Alliance Between Russia and Iran

According to Главком: In an interview with CNN, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russia has supplied Iran with Shahed drones, some of which contain Russian-made components. Zelenskyy stated these drones have been deployed in attacks against U.S. military assets and Iran's regional neighbors. He further disclosed that Ukrainian intelligence has obtained information showing Moscow is providing Tehran with reconnaissance data, indicating a highly active military partnership. This collaboration underscores how the war in Ukraine is fueling broader geopolitical alignments.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, was referenced in connection with this cooperation. Zelenskyy emphasized that Iran has for years assisted Russia in its war against Ukraine by supplying drones and military technology.

"They are using Iranian licenses under which they have built and produced a large number of drones. They transferred them. I have one hundred percent facts that the Iranian regime used them against American bases and against Iran's Middle Eastern neighbors," the President stated.

Ukraine's Counter-Drone Initiative

In response to the drone threat, Ukraine has dispatched three teams of professional counter-drone experts to the Middle East. The initial countries receiving this Ukrainian assistance are:

  • Qatar
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Jordan

Zelenskyy also reported that more than 10 countries have requested Ukraine's support in defending against Shahed drones.

"Right now, we in Ukraine possess the world's greatest expertise in countering 'Shaheds' because of this war," he stressed, explaining that the experience of Ukrainian forces in this field is invaluable.

"My intelligence informed me that they are saying: 'If Europe and the U.S. can help Ukraine with intelligence in this war, it means Russia can help the Iranian regime. That is their view of it. So it is a fact, and you see it is not a big secret,'" Zelenskyy added, highlighting the perceived reciprocity in state-backed intelligence sharing.

President Zelenskyy's statements highlight the growing security threat posed by the Russia-Iran partnership, particularly regarding military technology. The transfer of Shahed drones and reconnaissance intelligence points to a strategic alliance with serious potential consequences for regional stability and international politics. Ukraine's actions to counter drones in the Middle East, along with requests for help from other nations, demonstrate the critical need for global cooperation in addressing modern asymmetric warfare challenges.
