Russia Strikes Naftogaz Gas Infrastructure with Ballistic Missiles

Russia's ballistic strike on gas infrastructure
Росія завдає потужних ударів по газовій інфраструктурі НАК Нафтогаз.

Attacks on Gas Production Facilities

According to Главком: Russian forces launched massive strikes on Naftogaz's gas extraction infrastructure in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions, using at least four ballistic missiles-including some with cluster warheads-along with attack drones. The assaults damaged a crew bus transporting workers, but no company employees were killed or injured.

Strikes on Fuel Stations and Production Assets

On June 24, Russian troops targeted Ukrnafta's gas station complexes in the Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as gas production assets in Poltava. In this attack, a drone wounded a female gas station employee. Russian drones also damaged gas extraction and storage facilities, forcing a halt to some production operations. A fire at one site was extinguished, with no casualties among staff or rescuers.

On the night of June 27, a Russian drone struck a gas station in Zaporizhzhia, sparking a fire that was also brought under control. The unmanned aerial vehicle hit the station's premises, igniting a gas tank and the administrative building.

“We have destruction, and the impact assessment is ongoing,” said Serhiy Koretsky.

These attacks on energy infrastructure highlight Russia’s strategic goal of destabilizing Ukraine’s economy and reducing energy supplies. Strikes on gas production enterprises and fuel stations could lead to:

  • higher fuel and energy prices,
  • greater fuel supply challenges during wartime.

Given the ongoing assaults, the readiness of Ukrainian forces to counter threats and protect critical infrastructure remains essential.

The recent attacks on Naftogaz's facilities are part of a broader strategy aimed at crippling Ukraine's energy sector. In a similar series of strikes, Russian forces targeted Naftogaz operations in other regions, further escalating tensions and raising concerns about the sustainability of energy supplies.
