Russian Forces Strike Kharkiv with Jet-Powered 'Shahed' Drones for the First Time, Causing Casualties
Kharkiv Shelling and the Deployment of New Technology
According to Главком: For the first time, Russian military forces have used jet-powered 'Shahed' drones to attack the city of Kharkiv. Since the start of the day, the occupying forces have carried out 11 strikes on the city, all targeting the Kyivskyi district. A direct hit on a residential building in this district was confirmed, causing a fire on the second and third floors.
Two civilians were injured: a 61-year-old woman and a 52-year-old woman, both suffering blast injuries. In the early hours of April 2, the Russian occupation army also attacked Kharkiv with drones. That strike hit the ninth floor of an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
'Most of the enemy UAVs were jet-powered, and the enemy used them against Kharkiv for the first time. There could have been more impacts, but thanks to the work of our military, some of the enemy drones were shot down – we thank the air defense forces,' stated Ihor Terekhov.
Ukraine is now in its 1499th day of a full-scale war. These latest attacks on Kharkiv highlight an escalation in the conflict and the aggressor's use of new warfare technologies. Strikes on civilian infrastructure appear aimed not only at causing physical damage but also at exerting psychological pressure on the population. Given the ongoing hostilities, the work of air defense systems remains critically important, demonstrating its effectiveness by reducing the number of successful hits.
The recent attacks on Kharkiv are part of a broader pattern of escalating violence in the region. In just 24 hours, Russian forces have targeted 18 settlements across the Kharkiv area, indicating a significant increase in military operations. This surge in strikes not only emphasizes the ongoing threat to civilian life but also raises concerns about the strategic objectives behind such assaults.
