Kyiv and Five Regions Hit in Major Russian Missile and Drone Barrage
Ukraine Targeted by Coordinated Missile and Drone Assault
According to Главком: In the early hours of February 3, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale combined missile and drone attack targeting the capital, Kyiv, and a series of other cities and regions, including Kyiv Oblast, Dnipro, Sumy, Konotop, and Kharkiv. This assault resulted in severe damage to infrastructure and residential buildings across multiple areas.
In Kyiv, damage was recorded in five districts:
- Darnytskyi
- Desnianskyi
- Dniprovskyi
- Pecherskyi
- Shevchenkivskyi
The strikes impacted residential apartment blocks, non-residential structures, a kindergarten, and a gas station. In Kharkiv, the attack caused major damage to the district heating system, resulting in a coolant leak from one of the city's largest combined heat and power plants. Consequently, 820 apartment buildings in Kharkiv were temporarily left without heating, prompting authorities to launch additional bus routes to assist residents. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian energy and civilian infrastructure.
Impact Across Other Cities
The situation remained critical in other cities as well. The Izium and Balakliia communities were left without electricity. In Konotop, a children's educational institution, private homes, and infrastructure objects were damaged. One residential building in Konotop was destroyed, though preliminary reports indicate no casualties there.
In Sumy, strikes targeted multi-story residential buildings in the Zarichnyi district. In one building, the heating supply was damaged and windows were blown out, while a fire broke out in another, damaging a balcony and windows. There is currently no information on casualties in Sumy.

Furthermore, the deal was struck ahead of an anticipated initial public offering for SpaceX, which could occur later this year. According to Bloomberg, the value of the combined company could exceed $1.2 trillion. This major tech deal stands in stark contrast to the destruction reported in Ukraine.
These events underscore the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, which continues to severely impact civilian populations and critical infrastructure. The scale of the Russian strikes highlights the protracted nature of the war and its devastating consequences for Ukrainian cities, raising serious concerns for human safety. Meanwhile, news of the SpaceX and xAI deal points to the relentless pace of development in the global technology sector, with potential long-term implications for investment and innovation. These two stories together illustrate the concurrent challenges and opportunities facing both Ukraine and the international community amid modern global crises.
