Massive Combined Missile and Drone Attack Targets Ukraine

According to Главком: In a large-scale overnight assault, Russian forces launched a major attack on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. According to Ukrainian Defense Forces, the attack, which began on the evening of February 6 and continued through the night, involved 477 aerial weapons. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 406 of these incoming threats.

Weaponry Deployed in the Aerial Assault

The Russian military employed a diverse arsenal of weapons in the attack, including:

• 2 Zircon missiles
• 21 Kh-101 cruise missiles
• 16 Kalibr cruise missiles
• 408 attack drones of various types, such as Shahed, Gerbera, and Itlamas

These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine's energy and logistical networks, especially during the winter months. The drones were launched from multiple locations within Russia and occupied territories, including Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Shatalovo, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Hvardiiske (Crimea), and Donetsk. The primary targets of the strike were regions in western and central Ukraine, specifically Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, and Vinnytsia oblasts.

Impacts were recorded in several regions. In Rivne oblast, a residential apartment building and critical infrastructure were hit. In Volyn, drones struck a critical infrastructure facility. A series of secondary explosions was reported in Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. An educational institution was damaged in Vinnytsia oblast. Furthermore, in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, buildings, trolleybuses, and vehicles at a municipal enterprise were damaged. One man was wounded in Khmelnytskyi oblast.

Ukrainian air defense forces, which included aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and drone units, and mobile fire groups, managed to shoot down 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 10 Kalibr cruise missiles, and 382 enemy drones of various types. Information regarding two other enemy missiles is being clarified. As of 8:00 AM on February 7, firefighters in Kyiv oblast were still working to extinguish a blaze in a warehouse ignited by a drone attack. Hostile drones reportedly remained active in Ukrainian airspace.

This assault represents one of the largest aerial bombardments of Ukraine in recent months, underscoring Russia's continued aggressive strategy of targeting civilian infrastructure.

While the significant activity of Ukrainian air defense forces successfully neutralized the majority of aerial targets, the strikes that got through caused substantial destruction to civilian infrastructure and resulted in casualties. The situation remains tense as emergency services continue efforts to manage the aftermath of the attack and ensure public safety.
