Sybiha at the OSCE: international law does not protect children from abduction by Russia
The Russian war against Ukraine raises a broad issue of the insufficient protection of children's rights under international law. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha spoke in Vienna at an event where the indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children by Russia were discussed.
Representatives from various countries and organizations supporting Ukraine in the fight for children's rights were discussed at this event. The minister thanked the UN member states for supporting the resolution on the return of Ukrainian children and condemned those who voted against it.
Andrii Sybiha called for concrete measures to return children home after abductions and prevent future violations. He urged the international community to support these actions and impose additional sanctions against Russian war criminals responsible for these acts.
The meeting in Vienna, where issues of indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children by Russia were discussed, emphasized the importance of protecting children's rights during armed conflict. The Foreign Minister of Ukraine advocated for maintaining the international community's focus and adopting concrete mechanisms for returning abducted children home and preventing new violations.
