Russian planes violated the airspace of Lithuania: details of the incident

Military aircraft violate Lithuania's airspace
Літва зафіксувала порушення повітряного простору російськими літаками: подробиці ситуації.

On Thursday, October 23, two Russian military aircraft - a Su-30 fighter jet and an Il-78 tanker - entered Lithuania's sky for 18 seconds, crossing its airspace. This information was reported by the Reuters agency.

It is noted that these planes were likely conducting training missions for refueling and entered the skies of Lithuania from the Kaliningrad region, covering a distance of 700 meters.

"This incident once again shows that Russia behaves like a terrorist state, violating international law and the security of neighboring countries. Lithuania is safe. Together with our allies, we will care for and protect every inch of our country," said Lithuania's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

In response to this incident, Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from NATO's Baltic Air Policing were scrambled to patrol the area.

It is worth noting that earlier, the airspace over the international airport in Vilnius was restricted due to an unidentified flying object, as well as due to a similar incident with Belarus.

Despite the fact that the planes entered for only 18 seconds, the event prompted a reaction from Lithuania and NATO, underlining the tension in relations between Russia and the West. The reaction of Ingrida Šimonytė, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, indicates a serious commitment to national security and support for allies in NATO.
