CAS allows FIS to admit Russian athletes: what it means for the Olympics

Міжнародний спортивний арбітраж дозволив участь російських спортсменів у змаганнях, що може змінити ситуацію на Олімпійських іграх.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in the tournaments of the International Ski Federation and Snowboard (FIS) in a neutral status. The CAS ruling was made after reviewing the appeal filed by the Russian Federation following the suspension of athletes earlier this year due to aggression against Ukraine.

If this decision is implemented, Russian athletes will have the opportunity to compete under their national flag and with all national symbols. The 2026 Olympic Games, to be held in Italy, will be the main tournament where this decision will be applied for the first time.

Despite being allowed to participate in competitions, some Russian athletes still violate the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding neutral athletes by participating in propaganda events and public activities alongside politicians and military personnel.
