Phone Conversations with European Leaders

According to Зеленський: Key discussions took place over the phone with German Chancellor Olaf Merz, European Council President António Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The central topic was the need to release a €90 billion European support package for Ukraine, spread over two years. A spokesperson stressed the urgency, stating:

“It is essential that the European support package for Ukraine-€90 billion over two years-be unblocked.”

They added:

“There can no longer be any justification for blocking it.”

Sanctions and Support Situation

A significant development is that Ukraine has met an EU requirement by repairing the Druzhba oil pipeline, which was damaged by Russia. However, despite these efforts, there has been a prolonged lack of progress on imposing new sanctions against Russia over the war. The spokesperson emphasized that “pressure must be maintained so that Russians do not feel they can wage war calmly and with impunity.” At the same time, reports indicate that the United States is easing its restrictions.

These phone calls highlight the critical role of international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Unlocking the €90 billion financial package would provide substantial assistance for rebuilding the country’s economy and infrastructure. The success of these efforts hinges on the political will of European leaders and sustained pressure on Russia to ensure regional stability.

As discussions continue regarding the urgent release of the €90 billion support package, it's important to note that potential obstacles remain. Recent reports suggest that Hungary and Slovakia may veto this financial aid, complicating the situation further.
