Russian Military Intelligence Agent Apprehended

According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has arrested an agent of Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, preventing planned terrorist attacks in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Uman, and Odesa. The detained individual, a 55-year-old former law enforcement officer from the Odesa region, was plotting to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target vehicles belonging to Ukraine's Defense Forces. This operation highlights the persistent threat of sabotage operations within Ukraine's borders.

The counterintelligence operation resulted in the seizure and neutralization of all IEDs and other weaponry prepared by the suspect. The individual now faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including:

• Part 1, Article 14, Part 2, Article 258 (preparation of a terrorist act)

The suspect is currently in custody and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property. This arrest of a GRU agent is part of a wider investigation that also includes the case of an FSB agent who, in July 2023, was preparing a terrorist attack in Lviv.
