Serbia Arrests 13 Figures in Roof Collapse Case at Train Station: Scandal Details
A court in Serbia has decided to arrest 13 people suspected in the case of the roof collapse at the train station in the city of Novi Sad, which claimed the lives of 16 people and triggered mass protests. Among those arrested are former Minister of Trade Tomislav Momirović, former Minister of Infrastructure Goran Vesić, and 11 other figures involved in the case.
The suspects are accused of corrupt actions during the modernization of the railway infrastructure, which could have caused damage to the state budget amounting to over 115 million dollars. According to the court's decision, the defendants have the right to appeal this ruling within three days.
On March 21, 2025, one of the victims of the disaster during the roof collapse at the train station in Novi Sad died, increasing the total number of fatalities to 16 people. This tragedy sparked mass protests across the country, demanding accountability from the authorities for corruption and negligence.
As a result of the investigation into the events at the train station in Novi Sad, the court has ordered the arrest of 13 individuals, including former ministers, on suspicion of corrupt actions that may be linked to the tragedy and the damage to the state budget. The defendants currently have the right to appeal the court's decision.
