Strong earthquake near Kamchatka: magnitude 6 and consequences for the region
According to glavcom.ua: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6 was recorded off the coast of Kamchatka, reports the regional branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by 'Glavkom'.
«Distance from the PC: 234. Depth (KM): 64.8. Magnitude: 6.0», – says the message in the Telegram channel with reports of earthquakes that have occurred.
On July 30, Kamchatka also experienced the strongest earthquake since 1952, when the magnitude was 8.8. The tremors were felt even on the northern Kuril Islands, and four tsunami waves partially damaged port infrastructure and other facilities.
Powerful earthquake and its consequences
A powerful earthquake near Kamchatka also caused a high wave that reached Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast in the Pacific Ocean.
It was noted that the base of the Pacific Fleet of Russia in Kamchatka suffered damage due to the tsunami resulting from the earthquake. Additionally, for the first time in the observation period, a volcano in Kamchatka erupted ash to a height of 3-4 kilometers above sea level.
