Over 20,000 Emergency Calls Logged Amidst Heating and Power Failures
Widespread Utility Disruptions Reported
According to МВС: Ukraine's 112 emergency service has registered more than 20,000 calls concerning failures in heating, electricity, water, and gas supplies. The capital region of Kyiv and its surrounding areas have been the hardest hit, accounting for nearly 15,000 of these reports. The situation has become particularly severe due to freezing temperatures exacerbated by Russian strikes on critical infrastructure.
Support Measures for Affected Residents
In Kyiv, authorities have opened over 1,300 'invincibility points' for public support, located in shopping malls, restaurants, and gas stations. The State Emergency Service (SES) has deployed more than 90 heating tents, while 30 police units are also operating as warming shelters. These measures provide essential aid to people facing harsh conditions. This crisis highlights the severe impact of war on civilian infrastructure, especially during winter.
The '112 Ukraine' mobile application continues to grow in use, having surpassed 55,000 downloads. Ihor Klymenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs, stated:
"Russian attacks on critical infrastructure during severe frosts represent a genocidal intent, deliberately depriving millions of people of basic living conditions in winter." - Ihor Klymenko
He urged citizens to support one another and seek assistance by calling 112 or visiting the invincibility points and heating tents organized by the SES. The collective response from both authorities and the community is vital for ensuring public safety and comfort during this energy crisis. The establishment of these support centers is a crucial step in aiding those left without essential utilities due to the ongoing conflict.
