Shmyhal became the Minister of Defense: he outlined the new priorities of the department
According to hvylya.net: On July 17, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Denys Shmyhal as the new Minister of Defense. This historic decision is the first in the history of independent Ukraine, where the Prime Minister transitions to the position of Minister. The new minister defined the priority tasks of his work.
'The task of the Ministry of Defense is to do everything to ensure that people are provided for, and that the system in the Armed Forces is focused on the Ukrainian soldier,' emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
Among the priorities of the new minister is to provide Ukrainian servicemen with necessary resources, increase the production of Ukrainian weapons, and cooperate with international partners. Shmyhal also announced his intention to audit all agreements with partners and emphasized the importance of quality management in the Armed Forces.
'Quality management in the army, trust in commanders, and the leadership of our Armed Forces is, of course, primarily a priority and the basis for ensuring that people are not afraid to join the Armed Forces,' he emphasized.
Shmyhal's appointment completed the formation of the new government. In addition to him, Andrii Sybega was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Denys Uliutin as Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, as well as other members of the renewed Cabinet of Ministers.
The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada appointed Denys Shmyhal as the new Minister of Defense, marking this as a historic decision, as this is the first time that a Prime Minister transitions to the position of Minister. Shmyhal has focused his mission on improving conditions for Ukrainian servicemen and supporting the Ukrainian army at the international level. Other leaders of the new government were also appointed, marking the completion of the formation of the new government.
