Four Foreign Films Premiere in Ukraine

According to Главком: On June 11, 2026, Ukrainian cinemas will debut four international films. These include:

  • Steven Spielberg's sci-fi feature 'Day of Truth',
  • Curry Barker's horror movie 'Obsession',
  • the thriller 'Dangerous Proximity',
  • and a re-release of David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet' to mark its 40th anniversary.

Film Overview

'Day of Truth' marks Steven Spielberg's first major project since his 2022 drama 'The Fabelmans'. The film stars Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor, with a screenplay by David Koepp. John Williams, celebrating his 30th collaboration with Spielberg, composed the score. Production took place across New York, New Jersey, and Atlanta throughout 2025. Industry reports estimate the budget at around $115 million. Emily Blunt noted that her work was 'terrifying', as she refused to use artificial intelligence for voice effects in the contact scene.

The horror film 'Obsession', directed by former YouTube creator Curry Barker, is also hitting Ukrainian screens. Its premiere took place at the Toronto International Film Festival, with a budget of roughly $750,000. The cast includes Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Loveless, Andy Richter, Haley Fitzgerald, and Darin Thunder. 'Obsession' has already gained traction, grossing over $229 million worldwide.

Thriller 'Dangerous Proximity' was directed by Damian Romey and Bruno Hernandez. Its cast features Brianna Cohen, Donny Boaz, Nicole Marie Sissinni, Kylie Cunningham, Aidan Patrick Griffin, Jessica Pacheco, and Annette Hobbs. Rachel Morton wrote the screenplay, with Ernan Herrera serving as cinematographer. The film premiered on Lifetime in summer 2025.

David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet' returns to Ukrainian theaters for its 40th anniversary. Originally released in 1986, the film became a cinematic landmark. Its budget was around $6 million, financed by Dino De Laurentiis Entertainment Group. The cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, Laura Dern, and Dean Stockwell. Dennis Hopper earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Frank Booth.

These four films promise to be major events for Ukrainian moviegoers, offering a diverse range of genres and world-class talent. The releases of high-profile works like 'Day of Truth' and 'Obsession' could draw attention to Ukraine's film market, highlighting its dynamic growth and increasing interest in international cinema.
