U.S. Revokes Visa Privileges for Senior Iranian Officials and Their Families
U.S. Ends Immigration Privileges for Iranian Officials
According to Главком: The United States has revoked special immigration privileges for high-ranking Iranian officials and their family members. This decision was enacted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The State Department indicated these measures were taken in the context of the Iranian people's struggle for fundamental rights. This move is part of a long-standing U.S. policy of applying diplomatic and economic pressure on the Iranian government.
Statement from the U.S. State Department
The U.S. State Department commented on its decision, stating:
“As the Iranian people continue to fight for their basic rights, this week we took action to revoke privileges for senior Iranian officials and their family members to be in the United States.”
It was also noted that
“those who profit from the brutal repression of the Iranian regime cannot enjoy our immigration system.”
The revocation of immigration privileges for senior Iranian officials is part of a broader U.S. policy toward Iran aimed at supporting the Iranian people in their struggle for human rights. This decision may heighten the existing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, especially against the backdrop of previous military actions and political statements. Simultaneously, such steps may be perceived as a signal to other nations regarding the U.S. position on human rights and support for democratic movements worldwide.
In June of last year, the U.S. had already carried out military strikes against Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump at the time considered possible targeted strikes on Iranian military facilities. In response to these actions, Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, expressed concern, while Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, rejected Trump's proposal.
