EU Court of Justice Clarifies RT Sanctions

According to Главком: The European Court of Justice has ruled that sanctions blocking content from RT (Russia Today) apply not only to broadcasters but also to websites that offer free access to such material. This decision came from a case involving criminal proceedings in Germany against three individuals accused of repeatedly distributing RT – Russia Today Germany videos through a free website. A German court had asked the EU Court for clarification, leading to the finding that the term 'operator' includes anyone enabling access to banned content, regardless of whether they seek profit. The court further determined that a lack of commercial intent or funding through voluntary donations does not exempt someone from sanctions. The ban's enforcement does not depend on the scale or duration of the distribution. The final verdict in the German criminal case now rests with the national court.

Russian Satellite Malfunctions

Separately, news from Russia reports a failure of the telecommunications satellite 'Express-AT1,' which was used by operators including Tricolor, NTV-Plus, and Russkiy Mir. This malfunction has disrupted satellite television services in Russia and in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. The official cause of the satellite's failure has not yet been determined, though potential external interference is being considered as one possibility. These developments highlight the growing importance of regulating information spaces under sanctions targeting Russian media, while also underscoring the fragility of media infrastructure in times of heightened political tension.
