Svyrydenko Unveils Billions for Roads and Frontline Region Support
Ukrainian Prime Minister Visits Kherson and Mykolaiv Regions
According to Главком: On May 9, 2026, Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko conducted an official trip to the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. The visit focused on safeguarding logistics and critical infrastructure, preparing for the winter heating season, and supporting medical workers, entrepreneurs, and farmers. A central topic was the planning for the upcoming heating season. These regions, located near active conflict zones, face heightened challenges in maintaining basic services and economic activity.
As part of the government's Resilience Plans, officials inspected the construction of protective structures for energy infrastructure and water supply facilities.

During my working trip to the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, we concentrated on protecting logistics and critical infrastructure, preparing for winter, supporting local medical professionals, and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and farmers.' During the visit, the Prime Minister announced the allocation of 96 million hryvnias for setting up network corridors on key highways, along with an additional 3.5 billion hryvnias in subsidies for repairing roads in frontline areas. 'We will allocate 96 million hryvnias for network corridors on priority routes. We will direct 3.5 billion hryvnias in extra subsidies for frontline road repairs,' Svyrydenko added.
Furthermore, the government has prepared amendments to Ukraine's 2026 State Budget aimed at strengthening the security and defense sector. A key development was the approval of a 90 billion euro loan from the European Union for 2026-2027. Ukraine also expects to receive 45 billion euros in international support in 2026, with 31.8 billion euros planned for defense and security and 13.2 billion euros to cover the state budget deficit.
Support for Medical Facilities and Educational Spaces
During her trip, the Prime Minister also visited the PROSTIR Kherson educational space, operating out of a local school. 'We continue to make payments to medical institutions based on staff numbers, and together with the region, we are developing a housing support program,' she stated, highlighting the importance of backing healthcare facilities. 'I thank all teachers and educators who work with children amid security threats, supporting their development and mental health,' Svyrydenko added, expressing gratitude to educators for their work in challenging conditions.
This visit underscores the Ukrainian government's focus on supporting regions affected by military actions and the necessity of maintaining vital functions in these unstable areas. The allocation of funds for infrastructure and medical institutions reflects the government's commitment to meeting basic population needs and fostering economic activity in frontline zones.
In addition to these significant investments in infrastructure, the government is also taking steps to improve the financial stability of essential services, as seen in the recent announcement regarding a notable increase in teacher salaries.
