Top Ukrainian and Polish Officials Hold Talks in Rzeszow
According to Кабмін: Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko, met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Rzeszow to address critical issues including defense, energy cooperation, bilateral trade, and the development of border and logistics infrastructure. Svyrydenko expressed gratitude to the Polish people for their ongoing support, highlighting the symbolic choice of Rzeszow as the venue-a city that has sheltered thousands of Ukrainians since the full-scale invasion began and was honored with the title of ‘City-Rescuer’ by the President of Ukraine.
Key Discussion Points
The talks focused on finalizing an agreement for joint control at shared border crossings. Additionally, technical matters regarding the registration of Ukrainian carriers in the SENT/RMPD system are expected to be resolved. Svyrydenko emphasized that cooperation between energy companies Naftogaz and ORLEN will be strengthened, and Polish firms will take part in Ukraine’s privatization processes.
Prime Minister Tusk helped facilitate the unblocking of the 20th sanctions package and secured the EU’s position on a €90 billion loan package. Svyrydenko stressed the urgency for Ukraine to receive the first tranche of this loan as soon as possible to support defense capabilities and cover budget needs. She also expressed hope for the swift commencement of negotiations across all clusters regarding Ukraine’s EU membership.
Looking ahead, the officials discussed that this year’s Ukraine Recovery Conference will take place in Gdańsk, and the Fourth International Summit of Cities and Regions of Ukraine is scheduled for May in Kyiv, ahead of URC 2026.
The meeting between the Ukrainian and Polish premiers underscores the importance of bilateral cooperation amid the security challenges and economic hardships facing Ukraine. Discussions on trade, energy, and infrastructure reflect a shared commitment to deepening ties and advancing Ukraine’s integration into European structures.
