Electricity tariffs may rise as early as November: what is known about the price increase

Electricity tariff in autumn: Ukrainians received an answer
Вартість електроенергії може зрости вже в листопаді: що потрібно знати про зміну цін.

Increase in electricity tariffs in Ukraine

According to the director of the Energy Research Center Alexander Kharchenko, Ukrainians may face an increase in electricity tariffs in the coming months. According to government decision, the current tariff is valid only until the end of October, which may lead to an increase in the cost of electricity from the beginning of November.

Currently, Ukrainians pay 4.32 UAH for each kilowatt-hour of electricity. However, experts claim that this price is unprofitable for the energy sector, as it does not cover the actual costs of production and supply of electricity.

Kharchenko believes that the electricity market in Ukraine needs a fundamental reform, but increasing tariffs under current conditions makes no sense. Even with the advice of Ukraine's partners to carry out energy reform, this may not happen for a long time, at least until the end of the war.

'I do not understand the point of not raising the issue of increasing tariffs,' Kharchenko emphasized.

Efficient use of electricity

To reduce electricity costs, one can install a dual-tariff electricity meter. With such a billing system, the cost of electricity during nighttime is only 2.16 UAH per kilowatt-hour. This means that shifting some energy-intensive processes to nighttime hours can help significantly reduce electricity bills.

At the same time, the reform of the electricity market remains relevant, but increasing tariffs for the population is not a key element at the moment.

The increase in electricity tariffs in Ukraine may become a reality in the coming months. According to experts, current prices do not reflect actual costs in the energy sector, and the market needs serious reforms. At the same time, efficient use of electricity, for example through a dual-tariff meter, can help citizens save on utilities.
