Tragedy in Brovary

According to ДСНС: In the city of Brovary, Kyiv region, a tragic event occurred, resulting in one person's death and another hospitalized. The cause of the incident was carbon monoxide poisoning due to a generator running in the basement of a multi-storey building.

The tragedy happened due to violations of safety rules when using generators. It is emphasized that generators should not be used in residential spaces, basements, or garages, as this can lead to dangerous consequences. The main rules for operating generators include:

  • ensuring operation only outdoors;
  • maintaining a distance of at least 6 meters from buildings;
  • avoiding placing the generator near windows, doors, and ventilation openings.

It is also important to ensure that exhaust gases do not enter the house, refuel the generator only after it has completely cooled, and install a carbon monoxide alarm. This incident reminds us once again of the necessity to follow safety rules when using such devices.

Need for Awareness

This tragic event highlights the importance of adhering to safety rules when operating generators, especially in conditions where their use is becoming increasingly popular. Given the risks associated with carbon monoxide poisoning, it is crucial for citizens to be aware of the dangers and follow the recommendations of specialists. Government agencies and safety services may consider conducting informational campaigns to raise public awareness about dangerous situations related to the use of generators.
