Trump Signs U.S.-Iran Memorandum at the Palace of Versailles
U.S. and Iran Sign a Memorandum of Understanding
According to Главком: During a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a physical copy of a memorandum of understanding with Iran. The document consists of 14 points, including:
- a cessation of military hostilities;
- Iran’s renunciation of nuclear weapons;
- the unfreezing of assets.
Both sides now have 60 days to negotiate a final agreement.
The paper version of the memorandum was a symbolic gesture, as Trump and Vice President JD Vance had previously signed the document electronically. The signed memorandum has since been handed over to the Iranian side and to mediating countries. At Tehran’s request, the document was signed in both English and Persian simultaneously-a move that Esmaeil Baghai said was intended to prevent any subjective or divergent interpretations.
Key Provisions of the Memorandum
The memorandum outlines several critical terms, including:
- an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon;
- Tehran’s commitment to neither develop nor acquire nuclear weapons;
- a phased resolution of enriched uranium stockpiles under IAEA supervision;
- the restoration of safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz within 60 days;
- the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iran and the withdrawal of American forces from Iran’s borders;
- the issuance of permits for Iranian oil exports and the unfreezing of Iranian assets;
- the development of a joint economic recovery plan for Iran, in coordination with regional partners, valued at no less than $300 billion.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf clarified that Lebanon is among the topics under discussion. Both sides have a maximum of 60 days to negotiate a final agreement on remaining unresolved issues. This signing marks a significant milestone in the evolving relationship between the United States and Iran, as well as with other nations involved in the negotiating process.
The signing of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding could lay the groundwork for regional stabilization and improved ties between countries with strategic interests in this part of the world. A successful negotiation process may have ripple effects on global markets-particularly oil pricing-and on the security situation in Lebanon and other neighboring states. Recognizing the document’s importance, the international community will closely monitor developments over the next two months.
As negotiations unfold, it's essential to understand the broader context of Iran's current position. Recent analyses suggest that Iran is experiencing unprecedented challenges, which may influence the outcome of the discussions. The implications of this memorandum extend beyond immediate agreements, potentially reshaping regional dynamics and U.S.-Iran relations.
