Trump invites Putin to G20 summit in Miami: what is known
US President Donald Trump expressed a desire to discuss the possibility of Russia's participation in the G20 summit in 2026, which will take place in Miami. He also noted that this will be the first G20 summit for the United States in nearly 20 years, to be held at his golf club Doral in Miami.
'It's a very interesting event - hosting the G20. The US will have the opportunity to host the summit here in America for the first time in nearly 20 years. And it will be held in one of the best cities in the country - beautiful Miami, Florida,' Trump said.
The President also expressed his intention to consider Russia's possible participation in the summit, stating that he would welcome either Putin or Xi Jinping to the G20 if they decided to attend.
'It's an interesting question. I would really like for them to do it if they want. I mean, they can, you know, be observers. They will be observers. I'm not sure they want to be observers,' Trump noted.
Russia and China are members of the G20, however, due to the events in Ukraine, Putin did not participate in the summits in 2023 and 2024, sending the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov instead. Recently, Trump acknowledged the desire to remain 'a distance from friendship' with Putin and Xi Jinping.
