Kulikov Suffers Facial Fracture

According to Главком: Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov sustained a significant facial injury during the team's 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators. The incident occurred in the third period when a puck struck him in the face, resulting in a complex nasal fracture. The 35-year-old veteran will miss the upcoming game against the Boston Bruins as a result. This is a significant blow to a Panthers defensive corps already dealing with multiple absences.

Kulikov, who had already missed 57 games this season following hip surgery, had played 17 games since his return without recording a point. Head coach Paul Maurice noted the severity of the injury, stating that Kulikov was barely able to breathe immediately after the puck struck him.

Florida Panthers' Roster Challenges

The Panthers are grappling with several other lineup issues:

  • Defenseman Aaron Ekblad suffered a broken finger and could miss the remainder of the regular season.
  • The club has recalled defensemen Tobias Bjornfot and Mikulas Hovorka from their AHL affiliate to bolster the roster.
  • Forward Cole Schwindt is expected to return soon as he recovers from a lower-body injury.

Currently, the Florida Panthers sit in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Injuries to key players like Kulikov and Ekblad could severely impact Florida's fading playoff hopes. The team is now in a difficult position, forced to quickly adapt its lineup without its most experienced defensemen. While the call-ups of younger players present new opportunities, they are unlikely to fully compensate for the lost veteran presence at this critical juncture of the season.
