It turned out that out of a total of 10 billion euros allocated by the EU to support Turkey's accession to the European Union, most was used for espionage operations in Europe. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs used millions of euros to gather intelligence on EU countries. The material also described methods of concealing these finances through shell companies and fake documents.
A group of Members of the European Parliament filed a complaint with the European Commission regarding the Turkish government's use of European funds to finance espionage operations in Europe. The initiative was led by MEP Kostas Mavridis, who noted the misuse of funds allocated for Turkey's EU accession by Erdoğan's government. Other MEPs from various political groups and countries also joined the complaint.
European deputies approached the European Commission with a complaint about the funding of espionage operations by the Turkish government. They pointed out the misuse of funds allocated for Turkey’s accession to the European Union and the disclosed methods and ways of spending these funds.
