According to Рубрика — Суспільство: From October 27 through November 1, movement across Kyiv’s Southern Bridge towards the left bank will be limited due to essential asphalt repair work. The maintenance will begin at 7:00 AM on October 27 and continue until 5:00 PM on November 1. During this period, the third lane and part of the second lane will be closed, with vehicles permitted only to use the first lane.

This bridge has suffered multiple damages caused by missile strikes and drone attacks carried out by Russian forces. Notably, on October 22, traffic resumed in both directions on the Southern Bridge, although the lane from the right bank to the left remained restricted to a single lane. On the same day, the bridge was targeted by several waves of missile strikes, damaging residential buildings, medical facilities, infrastructure components, and a restaurant building. These attacks resulted in one fatality and 22 injuries.

Impact on Infrastructure and Consequences

In addition to surface repairs, parts of the metro infrastructure on the Southern Bridge were damaged, further limiting traffic flow from the right to the left bank. On October 1, two drones struck near the bridge’s support pillars, causing metro and surface transport services on the bridge to halt temporarily.

It is important to recall that on the night of October 2, Russian forces launched their third attack on the Southern Bridge, damaging a bridge support, a guardrail, and protective concrete barriers for the metro. The bridge was again targeted by a drone on October 2, marking the fourth attack. Furthermore, on October 3, Russian forces struck the Northern Bridge with an attack drone, damaging the roadway and the trolleybus overhead wires.

Maintenance on the Southern Bridge is critical to ensuring the safety and reliability of Kyiv’s transport network, especially amid ongoing security threats posed by Russian military actions.

While these traffic limitations may cause delays in city travel, the repairs are a necessary step to restore and maintain the bridge’s operational capacity.
