A driver who hit a 13-year-old girl on a pedestrian crossing in Kyiv has been detained and charged. The 23-year-old citizen of the Russian Federation is suspected of violating traffic rules, resulting in the girl's death.

The driver is accused of violating road safety rules while under the influence of alcohol under part 3 of article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. On the evening of November 28, 2025, while driving a 'Tesla Model 3' in Kyiv, he failed to yield to pedestrians at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing, which resulted in the girl's death, while her companion - a boy - remained unharmed.

The police detained the driver under article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Although he exhibited signs of intoxication, he only confirmed it the next day after the accident, when he had already undergone testing and a medical examination. The results of the tests will determine which prohibited substances were consumed.

This man has already been held accountable for driving offenses related to being under the influence of alcohol three times, and in February 2025, he was banned from driving for 5 years.

A request for detention without the possibility of bail has now been sent to the court. By law, for violations that led to the pedestrian's death, a certain punishment and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles is provided.
