Conditions updated for Ukrainians applying for PESEL with UKR status in Poland
Ukrainians arriving in Poland due to the war can still obtain a PESEL with UKR status, which grants the right to legal stay and access to social guarantees. At the same time, to obtain such status, several mandatory conditions must be met during border crossing and after arriving in the country. This is reported by InPoland.
PESEL UKR in Poland: what to say at the border
One of the key conditions for obtaining UKR status remains correctly stating the purpose of entry into Poland.
When going through border control, Ukrainian citizens must inform Polish border guards that they are arriving in the country due to the war and seeking temporary protection.
This information is entered into the electronic system and later used during the processing of documents in local authorities.
If a different reason is stated upon entry, such as treatment, tourism, or a private trip, it will be impossible to obtain UKR status subsequently. In such cases, a regular PESEL number without special status can only be issued.
What documents are needed to obtain PESEL UKR
Another mandatory condition is the presence of a valid foreign passport.
It is also necessary to apply to the city or commune office for obtaining PESEL UKR no later than 30 days after entering Poland.
Adhering to this deadline allows you to take advantage of the special status provided for Ukrainians fleeing the war.
