According to hvylya.net: The police in Gdansk conducted an operation to expose a corruption network that was influencing the processing of documents for foreigners.
As a result of the investigation, nine citizens of Ukraine were detained. This was a continuation of an investigation that began in November 2024 with the arrest of an official.
Charges and Possible Consequences
The detained Ukrainians are accused of illegally receiving compensation for expedited issuance of residence cards for foreigners.
The crimes are classified under Article 230a § 1 of the Polish Penal Code. They face imprisonment from five to eight years.
Initial Arrests in the Case
In November of last year, a 51-year-old official from Gdansk and four foreign intermediaries, including Ukrainian citizens, were arrested.
These actions were the result of a new approach to processing documents for foreigners in Poland aimed at preventing corruption.
