The Radio announced when the heating season will start in the country

The decision on the start of the heating season in Ukraine has not yet been made — it depends on the weather and the readiness of each community. This was stated by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy issues Andriy Gerus in a comment to News.LIVE.

Is there a universal start date for the heating season in Ukraine

According to Gerus, there is no universal start date, as climatic conditions vary by region.

«There is no such thing as the heating season starting simultaneously for Sumy, Kyiv, and Odesa. In these cities, the temperature can be different, so some may start earlier. The final decision is made by the city mayor», — he noted.

Calculation of the start date of the heating season in Ukraine

A formal guideline for the start of heating supply is when the average daily temperature is below +8°C for three days. At the same time, local authorities consider not only the weather but also the technical readiness for launch:

• signing contracts for gas supply;

• preparation of heating networks;

• ensuring sufficient thermal energy supply.

Gerus emphasized that a decentralized approach allows for a more effective response to weather conditions.

«In each city, the heating season may start on different days. It is logical and correct that Kyiv and Odesa may start on different dates», — the deputy emphasized.

Preparations for the cold are already underway in Ukraine — local authorities are conducting hydraulic tests, repairing networks, and accumulating gas in storage. It is expected that the first boilers will start working in the second half of October or early November, depending on the temperature.
