Court Fines Military Recruitment Officer Over Erroneous Mobilization
Ruling by the Sokyriany District Court
According to Главком: A military official from a Territorial Center for Recruitment (TCR) has been penalized with a fine for negligence in duty, following a ruling by the Sokyriany District Court in Chernivtsi Oblast. The officer's failure to properly verify records led to the repeated conscription of a soldier who was legally entitled to a deferment, as well as the mobilization of an individual who had been officially discharged from service. The court's decision was published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions in July 2026.
The head of the administrative offense review and support group at a TCR received information from a man regarding his military status, but failed to cross-check it in the Oberih registry. In July 2024, that individual was mobilized and called up for service again, despite having been previously released from duty at the time of the second conscription. Additionally, in May 2026, the same officer did not verify the eligibility for deferment of another man who had submitted a relevant request.
Judge's Review of the Case
Judge Oleh Suskyi presided over the case. The accused did not attend the court hearing but submitted a statement admitting guilt. The judge imposed a fine of 17,000 hryvnias for the administrative offense related to negligent conduct in military service. The court's ruling is subject to appeal.
This incident, adjudicated by the Sokyriany District Court, highlights the critical need for thorough verification of service members' status, especially during wartime conditions.
Incorrect conscription decisions can violate the rights of citizens entitled to deferments or exemptions from service. This case may prompt a review of oversight mechanisms and the relationship between military institutions and civilians, in order to prevent similar errors in the future.
