Tragedy in Bucha District

According to ХВИЛЯ: The number of casualties as a result of the strike in the village of Mila in Bucha district has risen to 37, including the head of the community, who died during a rescue operation. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in his address. According to him, the rubble is still being cleared, and the death toll may rise. Dozens of people were injured, including local residents and rescuers.

The first strike occurred at a storage site for ammunition of the Defense Forces, leading to the detonation of shells, mines, other munitions, and drones. Zelensky stated that

“the horrific situation and the egregious negligence of those who stored explosives right next to people is unacceptable.”

The Prime Minister and the Minister of Internal Affairs were present at the scene. A criminal investigation has been opened in connection with the incident. Zelensky discussed the situation with the Attorney General, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Commander-in-Chief. Earlier, the Zhytomyr highway was closed due to a fire at warehouses in Bucha district. In addition, the Attorney General reported arrests of officials from a defense enterprise following the explosion at the ammunition depot in Vysheve.

Need for Investigation and Accountability

Zelensky emphasized that

“after the situation in Vysheve, another such crime is absolutely unacceptable”

and expressed hope that details would be presented to the public promptly. He also added that “there will be a response from Russia for all this they are doing.”

This tragedy in Bucha district underscores the seriousness of the issue of storing explosive materials in Ukraine, as well as the need for thorough investigations and accountability for negligence. In wartime, the safety of the population must be a priority, and such incidents raise concerns among citizens regarding management practices in the defense sector.
