Fuel Shortages and Drone Strikes Force Mass Event Cancellations Across Sevastopol

Massive cancellation of events in Sevastopol
Критична ситуація в Севастополі: проблеми з паливом та атаки дронів призводять до скасування численних заходів.

Public Events Axed in Occupied Sevastopol

According to Главком: Across occupied Sevastopol, a wave of public and large-scale events has been cancelled due to a severe gasoline shortage, repeated drone incursions, and missile strikes. Among the scrapped events:

  • a celebration at Malakhov Kurgan scheduled for June 14 for Sevastopol Day;
  • the 'Sevastopol Waltz' competition and the 'Legend of Kherson' event;
  • the 'Gathering of Kindred Hearts' festival planned for June 19-23.

The decision to cancel these festivities was announced by the press service of the Sevastopol Defense Museum, citing the need to ensure public safety.

Impact on Local Culture and Sports

The local rhythmic gymnastics federation has also called off the city-level 'Sevastopol Waltz' and the open cup 'Legend of Kherson.' Organizers stated that the operational situation makes safe conduct impossible, even with shelters available. The fuel shortage prevents team transport and hampers emergency services, further compounding the crisis.

The peninsula's fuel collapse worsened after a series of Ukrainian military strikes on oil depots and logistics hubs. The occupying administration cannot stabilize gasoline supplies, leading to a growing number of residents preparing to leave for Russia. Many have already begun packing their belongings for departure.

Additionally, multiple bridges between Crimea and the Kherson region came under attack overnight on June 11. These strikes were confirmed by Vladimir Saldo, the occupation governor of Kherson. The region remains tense, directly affecting daily life in Sevastopol and limiting residents' ability to engage in cultural and sports activities.

The cancellation of mass events in Sevastopol highlights the escalating situation in the region, driven by military operations and resource shortages. This likely reflects rising public anxiety and instability that will reshape social life.

As attacks continue and fuel remains scarce, residents are forced to adapt to new realities, with emigration and changes to everyday routines becoming increasingly common.
