Fuel prices in the US sharply increased after the start of military operations against Iran. Americans' spending on gasoline has already reached its highest level since 2024. The New York Times reports.

Gas prices in the US have sharply risen

According to the American Automobile Association, the average gasoline price in the country as of March 9 was $3.48 per gallon, which is approximately $0.92 per liter.

Since the beginning of the military operation, fuel prices have increased by more than 17%. The highest rates are observed in Western states, particularly California.

Fuel prices in the US are an important economic indicator as they influence:

  • inflation;

  • household expenses;

  • government approval ratings.

Due to rising prices, many Americans are trying to cut costs on travel.

Americans' reaction to rising fuel prices

Delivery driver Brandon Moore told reporters that gasoline prices have quickly risen after the start of hostilities.

«I just hope it doesn't get worse», — said the 41-year-old driver.

Another US resident, psychologist Luke Roan, travels about 96 kilometers by car every day. He notes that fuel expenses have significantly increased.

According to him, a full tank used to cost about $32, whereas now it is approximately $43.

The highest prices are recorded in Hawaii, where the average gasoline price has exceeded $4.52 per gallon (approximately $1.19 per liter). Local companies report that due to this, workers spend hundreds of dollars a week just on their commute.
