Парочка з Варшави може отримати 10 років позбавлення волі за напад на працівників українського магазину.

Assault in Warsaw's City Center

According to Главком: A 19-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man have been arrested in central Warsaw for assaulting two Ukrainian shop assistants. The attack occurred after the staff tried to prevent the pair from stealing several packets of chips. The assailants subjected the women to both physical violence and verbal abuse, which included derogatory remarks targeting their nationality. One of the cashiers sustained injuries from the beating.

Police arrived at the scene within minutes and apprehended the couple. During the arrest, it was discovered that the 19-year-old woman had nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in her blood, while the 30-year-old man registered over 1 per mille. Surveillance footage from the store corroborated witness accounts of the incident.

Legal Repercussions and Social Climate

The detained individuals are being charged with robbery and insulting a person based on national origin. For these crimes, they face up to 10 years of imprisonment. This case unfolds against the backdrop of a significant Ukrainian community in Poland, which numbers at least 2 million people. According to Warsaw's CBOS center, in February 2025, 38% of Poles expressed antipathy towards Ukrainians, while 30% felt sympathy. This marks a notable shift from early 2023, when 51% of Poles expressed sympathy and only 17% held negative views.

The incident highlights growing tensions in Polish-Ukrainian relations, fueled by a complex mix of social and economic factors that merit further examination. Such acts of violence risk damaging Poland's reputation as a safe haven for immigrants and underscore persistent issues of national discrimination and racism within society. The stark change in public sentiment over a relatively short period points to underlying societal strains that extend beyond this single attack.
