Darnytsia Power Plant Struck

According to Главком: An attack on the Darnytsia Combined Heat and Power Plant in Kyiv on February 3rd has critically damaged the facility, cutting off heating to more than 1,100 apartment buildings. The damage is so severe that water has been drained from the heating systems to prevent further issues. Repairs to the equipment and infrastructure will require at least two months, provided there are no further strikes. This attack is part of a wider pattern targeting Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure during the winter.

Emergency Heating Centers Deployed

To provide residents with warmth, the city has established emergency heating centers in local schools. These centers, connected to mobile boiler units, are open 24/7 for people to use. Currently, five such centers are operational in the Darnytskyi district and four in the Dniprovskyi district. Furthermore, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) is setting up an additional 36 heating points in Darnytskyi and 27 in Dniprovskyi.

"The energy situation remains very difficult. There is a risk that outage schedules may worsen," stated Denys Shmyhal. The city is doing everything possible to ensure comfortable conditions for residents while the Darnytsia plant undergoes restoration.

This situation underscores the critical importance of energy infrastructure for a city's survival, especially during wartime. Restoring the heating supply is a top priority for local authorities, as cold weather poses a direct threat to resident welfare. The rapid deployment of heating centers also demonstrates the readiness of city services to respond to emergencies and support the population under extreme conditions.
