Latvia Agrees to Supply Equipment from Thermal Power Plants to Help Rebuild Ukraine’s Energy Grid
Ukrainian PM Yuliia Svyrydenko Visits Latvia
According to Кабмін: On April 10, 2025, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko traveled to Latvia to discuss efforts to reinforce Ukraine’s energy sector following a massive Russian strike. The attack caused widespread damage not only to residential buildings, hospitals, and kindergartens but also to power facilities and gas infrastructure. In Riga, she met with Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs to explore ways to accelerate the delivery of critical equipment, including machinery from Latvia’s combined heat and power plants (CHPs).
“We are working in Latvia today to strengthen our energy system, which remains a primary target of Russian attacks,” Svyrydenko stated.
She emphasized that Ukraine is actively preparing for the next heating season and is leveraging every available resource along with international support to restore and protect the nation’s power grid. The discussions also covered the restoration of energy infrastructure in Ukrainian cities, which has become a key government priority in light of recent events.
International Support and Cooperation
This meeting highlights the vital role of international aid in ensuring Ukraine’s energy security amid ongoing military threats. As a neighboring country, Latvia is well-positioned to provide the necessary assistance, which could significantly boost the efficiency of energy infrastructure recovery and winter preparedness. Such partnerships also have the potential to strengthen bilateral ties in both energy and security domains.
