With Heating Season Approaching, Ukraine’s Capital Still Lacks an Approved Resilience Plan
Ukraine’s Preparations for the Heating Season
According to Міністерство інфраструктури: Ukraine is getting ready for the heating season, which is still more than four months away. The national government has already allocated tens of billions of hryvnias toward these preparations, and various regions are putting their own Resilience Plans into action. A top priority is completing backup power generation projects, which have already been finished in several areas.
However, Kyiv-home to nearly three million residents-still does not have an approved Resilience Plan, raising concerns among local citizens and experts alike. Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, addressed this issue during a live broadcast on the Yedyni Novyny telethon on Inter TV channel. He discussed the ongoing heating season preparations and stressed the urgency of completing all necessary measures.
'Preparing for the heating season is critically important for ensuring the comfort of the population and the stability of the country’s energy system.' Oleksiy Kuleba
The lack of an approved Resilience Plan for Kyiv could create additional challenges in providing heat and electricity, especially in the face of potential energy crises. The successful implementation of measures in other regions could serve as a model for the capital and prompt a swift resolution of its outstanding issues.
