Ukraine and Estonia Strike Joint Deal to Advance Drone Technology
High-Level Talks in Tallinn
According to Главком: Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko held discussions in Tallinn, focusing on expanding defense collaboration in unmanned systems, tightening sanctions against Russia, advancing the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, energy cooperation, and reconstruction efforts. The meeting included Estonian President Alar Karis, Parliamentary Speaker Lauri Hussar, and Prime Minister Kristen Michal.
Both sides agreed to intensify joint work on drone systems and share battlefield experience. A major topic was the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, which seeks to repatriate children affected by the war. They also discussed the 21st sanctions package, aimed at countering Russia's shadow fleet, and compensation mechanisms for Ukraine. Specific attention went to launching a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression-Estonia became the first country whose parliament ratified the agreement to establish it.
Strengthening Ties and Supporting Ukraine
Estonia officially joined the tribunal agreement in March of this year. Its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has exceeded €2.6 million. Ukraine is ready to share its experience in decentralizing the energy system under wartime conditions. The next step in cooperation will be the Ukraine Recovery Conference, set to take place in Gdańsk. Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has ratified the Convention establishing the International Compensation Commission, which has also been ratified by Estonia, Latvia, and Iceland.
These talks in Tallinn underscored the critical role of international backing for Ukraine as it faces military and economic challenges. Collaboration with Estonia on drones and energy, along with the ratification of agreements for the special tribunal, reflects growing solidarity from Ukraine's partners in countering aggression. This also opens new avenues for the country's recovery and future development.
In addition to the advancements in drone technology, Ukraine's energy sector is also receiving significant attention from its allies. For instance, Latvia's commitment to supply thermal power plant equipment underscores the collaborative efforts aimed at rebuilding Ukraine's energy grid, further strengthening support for the nation's recovery amidst ongoing challenges.
